help! My Differential to PPF Bolts Are Stuck
#13
Yeah, for sure!
But on a more serious note, I did my clutch and flywheel yesterday, I was'nt able to remove the bolts that join the PPF to do diff, so I remove the transmission with the PPF in the way.
We even try to heated up (while being carfule not to burned my diff) and try airhammering it out, nothing to do!
So if their is an output on this, I'll be glad to hear it!

On some of the cars it takes a very large breaker bar to get the bolts loose, it'll work where airtools will not. Depending on the year of the car, there are some sleeves in that area that need to be removed: http://virkki.com/jyri/miata/ppf/

I used a mid-level Harbor Freight air impact wrench and 120psi on both the '93 pictured above and my '96. Neither made trouble for me. A lesser air impact like my old one might not have done so well. I use the Earthquake, 625 ft/lbs.

is this to remove power plant frame bolts?
I took the f'in handle off my floor jack and used it as a breaker bar. it shouldn't be too bad. Once the bolt is loose (and the pumpkin is supported), just wiggle it around while threading out the bolt with good ol' rachet.
The spacer/washer thing on the other hand, you will need a screwdriver to pry it out. And make sure you get some uniform prying action going otherwise it will just get stuck. I can't help you much with the 1989 miata beyond this point because the way the PPF connects is different from my car. I know Keith's book covers the years and differences in the PPF, but I don't own one.

Im replacing all of my bushings with energy suspension bushings. and of course i cant get the diff bushings out with an air hammer in the car so i have to remove every around and near the diff.
my question is has anyone removed their diff before? i cant get the second(front) bolt out. The bolt is out of the 2 sleeves it screws into but is still stuck in. ive been soaking it with pb blasted but wont budge!
thanks.

I didn't have an impact wrench and the diff was in the car. I used a ratchet strap, crow bar(wonder bar if you know what that is), pickle fork (ball joint separator), chisel, penetrating lube, and a propane torch. After 30 mins of agony it came out.
