I was thinking of using the suspension Keith Tanner was using in the first iteration of the Targa Miata. To include the shocks.

Afcos are great and the lower cost alternative is the V-Maxx. I just picked up a set of V-Maxx Track Pack shocks for the new car. With the last one I actually went with Tokico Illumina's and Mazdaspeed springs. It gave a very smooth ride on the street. I made spacers for the lower spring mounts to raise the rears 3/4" for better exhaust clearance. Keep in mind this was a street only car and had to take 2 adults 2500 miles in 8 days for a charity rally. Look up Fireballrun.com when you get a chance. We were car 57 in the 2012 "Northern Exposure" run.
