Is there a proper solder for engine compartment (high temp areas)?

Default Is there a proper solder for engine compartment (high temp areas)?

Hey guys,

I want to re-do some of my wiring in the engine bay, particularly the wiring extension I did on my M-tuned coolant re-route and my crappy TPS extension using butt connectors.

Is standard Radio Shack (60 tin/40 lead) Rosin-Core solder enough for the task? Otherwise, is there something you'd recommend (and easily obtainable) that'll survive the heat and vibration better? I was told that more lead is better for automotive applications, but not sure what's appropriate.

Thanks,
Jon

I used a 20 dollar harbor frieght one seemed to work fine for me. Wouldn't do a circuit board with it but it's enough for wiring.

Use crimp connectors first, then solder that. heatwrap shrink.

what brain said. crimp it with an insulated butt splice.

(solder is fine until a few hundred degrees though if you want to do it the wrong way and have your joints break)
