Default Door Panels / Cards

My 1997 Miata has those funky door panels with the bump out on the opening end of the door. Don't know what the purpose of that design change was but it was the only year they were made that way! They are as rare as "hen's teeth" and I was hoping that someone on the forum could let me know IF another years' panels could be used to replace my old and tired ones.

Also, we just returned from the weekend-long 25th. Anniversary celebration of the Miata at Mazda Raceway in Monterey, CA. What a fun time we had with almost 2,000 cars in attendance! The highlight was the reveal of the 2016 "ND" Miata, in all of its' glory. Great looking vehicle with a brand new look and design.

We were also allowed onto the track for a couple of "controlled" parade laps. Now that was really fun.

I've seen a lot of pictures of the new car from the event. It looks really nice. Post any pics you took at the event!

I'm not aware of the special door cards you are talking about. I did think that all of the NA door cards were interchangeable. I also believe you can change the sculptured NB door cards out for flat panels of your own design.

Thanks for your input sixshooter. I have never had the cards off, so I don't know what is under the "bumps" in the stock cards. The power windows need maintenance, so that will give me a chance to check them out and see if your theory is correct.
