Hey guys

So I did a manual conversion on my 1998 mx5 1.6L and I'm having trouble starting the car. At first, I thought it was a dead battery so I got a new one but the car still wouldn't start. I then put it onto a level surface and it started the first time. but ever since then when I try to start it the engine tries to turn over but is sounds like its struggling. It bumps starts and runs and drives just fine but I just cannot get it to start with the key.

Please I am in desperate need of help, so if anyone has any idea or knowledge what might be causing the issue it would be much appreciated.
