Alik the "smurf"
Well, at least that's what my buddy Thumper13 calls me.
So, how the hell did I end up throwing so much money into a 20-year old hairdresser's car?
It all started with my MX-6 getting to the point where I either had to drop a ton of money into it, or, dump the car.
So, I looked around for something else.
I wasn't looking for a Miata, but, one was up for sale. Mariner Blue ("smurf"), some scrapes, completely stock, and, nice giant rust patches behind the front and rear wheels in the rocker panels.
I started the car (was completely cold), and, was impressed at how undisturbed the engine felt.
Drove the car, and, thought to myself "This cannot feel this good".
Told the woman that I like the car, but, needed to think about it.
Came back within a day, dropped $1500, and, drove home grinning ear to ear.
I remember driving back, and, with the top up, rain started to come down. The sound of raindrops tapping on the roof were simply music. Beautiful, enchanting music.
I started driving the car, and, kept on being amazed at the lightness, nimbleness of the car, and, how shitty the shocks felt.
Joined m.net, and, DEMANDED to know WTF. Why did my ride (albeit over rough Boston roads) feel so bad?
In the process of learning and fixing, managed to go through virtually every suspension setup (with the exception of Koni), hit the autox, fell in love with it, took the car to the track, and, now, with more than $25k in the car, it still has carpet, but, sports alum buckets, rollcage (with removable front), and many not so shiny custom parts.
Oh, and, I'm a lot less of an -------.
