New to the forum and wanted to check in. I currently have an RX-8 but plan on going to an MX-5 after the first of the year if finances work out. I've done a good deal of looking on line and pricing. I would like some more educated opinions on the hard vs soft top. Based on everything I have read I can't see the positive of having the hardtop other than looks. Would really appreciate views from folks that have real world experience.

Just for background, I'm an electrical engineer and I work in flight simulation. As I said I currently have an RX-8 and I had an RX-7 back in the early 80s before they got ugly!. Enjoy football, computers, play soccer, and I have always wanted a rag top!

fwiw, the hardtop stays warmer in cool weather and cooler in warm weather, as well as the seals around the windows are a much better design, my soft top only leaked around those seals, now i dont have a problem since i bought a hardtop. the hardtop is easily removed with 2 people if you feel like taking off on a nice day and the soft top is stored in lay down position so if you get caught out without the hardtop your not screwed.
