Something similar happened naturally to a patient at the hospital my friend works at. The guy got a cut on his foot that got infected. It was left untreated, and the guy probably had poor hygiene habits and didn't shower much. It got to the point where there were maggots in his feet, and his flesh was rotting up to the knee. His only hope was amputation, but he kept refusing to sign the papers to amputate. My friend told me it smelled like rotten steaks.
