Great article on proper brake cooling!

Hi fellow Miata lovers,
I am new to the boards, but have been a NASA member for sometime and love getting on track with them. They came out with a great magazine called Speed News last year that many of you may not know about. It has a ton of great info on lots of different makes and models of cars, but also has TONS of awesome info applicable to anyone that has an interest in high performance driving! For instance, check out the cool article about proper brake cooling in this months issue. If you get a sec, check out the rest of the issues here because it's completely free for anyone! Speed News Magazine
Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.

Brakes seem to be the biggest problem for new guys at the track. Few first timers heed the advice to bleed the brakes before attending. And few invest in appropriate pads.

I agree Six. Bleed your brakes and put in a proper DOT 4. Also, learn to not drive like you are on the street. Brake with authority and then bleed off, versus easing into the brakes coming into a brake zone. I see a lot of beginners cooking their pads from riding the brakes.

For my miata and HPDE and AutoX, I have had great success running the following:

Plain Steel Rotors
CarboTech XP8s
ATE Super Blue or Amber

I've never had to end a session due to heat or pad failure and my pads have lasted two seasons of HDPE and autox with occasional street duty. Approximately 2 - 3 HPDEs a year (darn kids).
