difference in trannys

curious is my 1.6 trans has different gears then the 1.8's came with.
i essentially want to change my final drive gear to rev lower on the highway but i still want that quick zip for auto x. (don't think i want to switch the diff, becuase that changes everything not just 5th)

i believe all 5speeds are the same gear ratio's
Ps: i believe you have a 4:30 rear end ratio, 4:10 would probably be about the same in the get up and go department, with a little lower revs at freeway speeds.

it seems like everyone seems to go the route of changing diffs, if i have to pull my tranny to do a clutch is it worth my time to just do a 5th gear replacement or am i better off doing a 4.10?

get a 6-spd then.

eppic Apr 3, 2012 11:04 AM

i'm fearful of the 6-speed having gears that are much to short for my auto x needs. haven't explored any of that yet but that's my pre-informed assumptions

its hella short, that's the thing.

quick zip in autox, lower rpms in highway :)

going from a 4.3 1.6L to a 4.1 1.8L rear is just a given.
