Just started building a 2002 Miata as a race only car. I'm looking for someone to re-flash my computer to eliminate many of the unnecessary monitors and also to disable the security key. I have a lot of experience with GM motor swaps for which there are many guys who can re-flash those ECM. Is there anyone who has the equipment to re-flash Miata computers?
Right now I'm not interested in buying an after market computer. At this stage I don't need to upgrade any custom tunes.

Unfortunately, the earlier models didn’t have any good/easy mechanism for reflashing the ECU. The closest method was a company called Begi (now called BTP tuning in Tx) and seems to have disappeared during COVID. Check their FB page for contact info. I never had a problem with their service, but they do have some unhappy customers based on custom part orders and ai think it’s a one man show.

Even so, the process required sending the ECU out so the chip could be desoldered and reflashed. Unsure if they can remove certain functions though. Most just used it for fueling modifications, primarily MSM owners to fix bogging issues.

Thanks RED for the valued reply. Will check it out. Along the same line, I wondering if there will be a performance issue if too many codes are thrown. Most of the circuit deletes will throw a code i.e. 2nd O2 sensor, Evap delete, EGR delete, etc.I don't want the engine to go into "Limp Mode" just because there are too many codes. These individual codes by them selves won't affect performance but might if there are enough of them????? The Limp mode codes that I'm aware of like MAP sensor, coolant temp, etc I can live with because they really are necessary. It's the ones that "who cares" code. Any help here?

Hey Bibb, none of tne of the things you mentioned will throw the car into a limp mode, but you probably have a more in mind then that. The Miata ECU is pretty “dumb” in that regard, and some racing classes like spec Miata force entrants to use supposedly stock ECUs, so that’s a start.

You might consider Checking out MazdaRacers, SpecMiata and SuperSpecRacing (in Cali!) for some guidance, depending on where you’re planning to go with the car. It’d be a shame to throw time and money into it only to find out you classed yourself out of something you were interested in.
