Planning on getting a 94
 

Okay well Im really wanting a 94 Miata. And I have only been interested in foreign cars for little less than 1 year. I plan on buying a 94 in 2 months time and I want to do a complete motor build. EVERYTING!!!!. But im new to all this stuff and this seems like one of the better websites I have came across to ask about stuff. Well anyways with in 2 months I will have and or should have a 94 Miata with a 1.8 and will completely rip the motor apart and buy everything to push it to the max. I just have no idea on where to get started with buying performance and or racing parts from a reliable website and brands or type of stuff to get. So I need someones help to figure out where to go and what to buy to really make this car go.

I guess it'll depend on what you intend to do with the Motor and the intended racing. Independent Throttle Body or high-revving blue-printed Naturally Aspirated, or Forced Induction? And if Forced Induction, how much horsepower and what do you anticipate doing with the car? Even though the Miata's a cheap little car, like anything, the cost can build up pretty fast.

I would say check out Flyin' Miata's built engine package, and Track Speed Engineering's built engine program. The prices will vary a bit. Overlap the things they both feel are necessary and start there. Note that I had a professional build my engine. I think you'll only really save money if you do it yourself. I found picking individual pieces a slow process that didn't really save any money, and overall the end result probably was the same if I had just done one of the package deals. Maybe marginally better. If I had the time, the extra car, and a core to send in, I personally would've sent it into TSE and be done.

There are a lot of top notch engine parts for good prices at 949Racing as well.

If you are planning on forced induction, Abe at Artech is very good for manifolds, downpipes and full exhausts. He does beautiful work and is very well regarded in the turbo Miata community.

For aftermarket ECUs for the Miata it is difficult to top Reverent (Dimitris) at MSLabs. I'm a fan of the MS3 Basic he is building.
