Hard top makes noies on some roads

On some roads are 2008 hard top makes noies; we took it to the dealer still not fix?

More information would be wonderful. First the year of your car, what kind of sounds it makes, anything you know the dealer tried etc...

2008 red hard top; not really sure what they did other than make the bolts tight

If it squeaks and pops lubricate something. If it bangs and rattles, figure out what needs adjusting or shimming.

Could it be the tires? The car has 15000 miles in it, I thimk bigger tires would help?

2008 hard top noise

We had an 06 NC hard top, it was rattly on some roads, but was adjustable at the front latch to hold it tighter. It was recently totalled and we have an 08 retractable hard top, it makes some rattles too, variation happens between top down and top up, sometimes it rattles, others not. I have not looked, but I suspect that it is adjustable too. When it rattled, I pushed up against the front latch and the rattle went away, so I know where to focus, perhaps this is your issue as well
Cheers,

Same thing happens to us; we try put small sponge and the help some.
Thanks

We've found that the plastic housing that surrounds the latch is loose, but dont see a way to tighten it up. it is the source of our rattle and vibration. Dont see a way to check it for tightness, is there any online sourse of pics, exploded views or pages from service manuals? I will post any success we have. It was so bothersome today, we just wadded up some paper towel and stuck it in there, worked, but a bit tacky....
Cheers,
Jon

Spray foam and clean up the excess?????

Goose5 07-11-2013 07:41 AM

I have a 2012 hardtop that did the same thing. My solution was to put some foam around the male ends of mating areas at either end of the top. This resolved the problem. The noise was a squeak, almost link nails on chalkboard. What was happening, the male ends were scraping against the female area. Hope this helps

Metal on metal or plastic or plastic?

Goose5 07-11-2013 08:40 AM

In this case it was metal on metal. The noise was more "noisie" when the temps dropped around freezing. The fix can be done with the loop side of Velcro, just to pad the suface to surface contact area.

What is this "freezing" you speak of?
/Florida post

Goose5 07-11-2013 11:11 PM

Freezing meaning 32 degrees F. This when the noise get bad

sixshooter 07-12-2013 05:47 AM

I was kidding.

Oh ok. Yes it does get cold in the desert in the winter moths. :0
