mazda miata SE 2002

I am about to purchase this vehicle but when test driving i noticd the check engine light constantly on. The sales person said if I switched the engine off & restarted it would go away; It didn't. What should I ask the dealer to do in order to be satisfied he has taken care of the real problem and not just disconnected the neg battery terminal or unscrewed the warning bulb. This vehicle had a computer module changed.
I did test drive it, the suspensions were a bit rough but it started up every time and drove well.

Take it to the local auto parts store and have them scan the codes. Or hire a mechanic to come to the car lot to do the same. Or buy a code reader from the auto parts store and learn to use it yourself.

If dealer will not consent, shop elsewhere.

Be prepared to shop elsewhere

Mazda made about a zillion Miatae. Unless you must have this particular car, or you get an incredible deal, be prepared to walk away. There are many other Miatae out there that do not have an issue. There are also many other sellers who are willing to fix problems in order to ensure a sale. Remember, it is YOUR money.
