NB Dash swap, doable in a day?
 

Hey doods, I want to swap in a new dash, cause mine's jacked up. I don't have a garage, so will have to borrow a friend's garage space. If I drive my car up with the following things pre-removed, do you think it's possible to swap in a day? If you have experience in this how long did it take you?

I'll pre-remove:
Glovebox
A-Pillar trim
Radio, HVAC Controls, center junk
Center Console
Anything else easy to remove?

I have looked into this swap but have not done it yet. From what I have read it is relatively simple. I do know that there is some re-wiring needing to be done to the HVAC controls, so as much research/prep as you could do before hand would ultimately speed up the process. Are you also planning on swapping the door panels?

It takes less than 2 hours total. A helper is great, as leverage is of an issue.
Still, even alone, it's not nearly as big of a deal.

Most of the things are just plug and play, like, the instrument cluster, and, the HVAC controls.

^^^ Everything I have read involves some rewiring of the HVAC, and the instrument cluster should be easy, you just maintain the NA cluster (seeing as how the NB cluster has digital odometer).

The OP has an NB. Sounds like he's just replacing old w/ "new", not the NA->NB swap you appear to be thinking of.

As said, it's pretty simple and an extra pair of hands will help. Would be a good idea to pop your VIN tag and carry it over to the new dash, rivet guns are cheap. Just be sure to remember where you unplugged things so you can plug them back in again.

well if he comes back, there is a quick and easy how-to written by keith on the NA. just find where all the bolts are that hold the dash in, so you know where to go. remove the interior accessories and ---- (the gauge hood so removing the gauge cluster will be easy, etc). and you can probably do it in an hour!

Right on guys, thanks. That gives me hope. I read some old post somewhere that you could pop out the VIN plate pretty easily, possibly by heating up the VIN plate pins with a soldering iron too. I guess we'll see. Time to start pulling stuff out!

eh? don't even pull the VIN, it will just make the car harder to repo if the wrong VIN is on it. ;)
