looking at a 2000
I am looking at a 2000 Miata that a dealer has. It is white, has 159,000 miles on it. The top and body are in very good condition. My concern is TB, WP, T-STAT, FLUIDS, and shocks as well as plugs and wires
I know the older models need all of this done so do I take this into consideration when making an offer They are asking 5200 TTL out the door, however if it needs all of this done to it then I think that is high. The car runs and sounds fine but so do all of them just before they overheat or break the belt. I did ask if all of the Maint. was current and they did not know .They did say that their mechs had looked it over and gave it an A rating which still does not tell me if any of the above has been done Appreciate any input on what to consider in making an offer |
I paid 6k out the door in 07 for my 99 with 103,000 on it. Unless it's in mint condition and it has a new clutch and timing belt, I think 5,200 is a little high.

I got my 2000 a year and a half ago with 70,000 miles, garage kept for $5400. The lady wanted 6500, but I talked her down after learning none of the 60k work had been completed.
I say, offer $4k and meet in the middle. :dunno: |
Tough call. I'd say if you can get them at 4800 I would call it a victory. 2000 is now 12 years old, and that is a LOT of mileage, which means depending on what has been done, you could be sinking a bit of money into it. Mileage wear items like bushings/ball joints etc could be in order soon.

dealerships have a nasty nasty habit of charging high prices for NBs. I payed 8k for mine with 47k miles on it. It was exceptionally nice and clean, but had a broken headlight from a fenderbender (which was on the carfax).
I would negotiate that heavily, I think a "fair" price would be around 4500. But you would be lucky to get it for 4700-4800 from them. Negotiations can include a few things, including listing maintenance on needs to be done, and backing that up with your ownership of 2 other miatas. Thats a good starting point. I would also consider telling them to prove that the TB was changed. |
Thanks for the replies.
I have ask them for proof that maint is upto date. I did tell them that I would be willing to start at 4900.00 and then subtract the cost of parts for any that have not been replaced such as the Tb I did mention the car is high mileage and the ball joints and bushings could be shot They just came back with an offer for 4800.00 out the door ,so now I am going to push for more off on it Do appreciate the info that all of you gave |
Not bad, they started under your number. Good luck and hope to hear about your new NB soon.

2000
I have not been here for a while a lot of fires to put out
I have been here but just a short time They sold the car for more than I offered and they wre not willing to go with deduction of parts not changed out |
There is a 10AE on the local board that has a BBK, rollbar, and fully done adjustable suspension for $5500. Don't pay too much when you do buy.
