1.6 motor wiring ?
I am looking at buying a 1.6 motor & trans from a parted out 1992. Anyone here know where I can find a breakdown of what I may need. I am going to install it in a 1961 Sunbeam Alpine, so I need everything to run the motor.
The motor & trans I am looking at to buy is out of the car and he has boxes of parts and wiring. Can anyone help with a shopping list? I have owned this car 37 years and installed a Datsun A14 & trans from a B210 back in 1979, so it is time for an up-dated motor. Thank you. |
The wiring diagram is here. There are some parts that you will need from the donor car including the air flow meter and some other odd items. Some of them can be done away with if you choose to go with an aftermarket ECU solution like the Megasquirt. You will probably need a factory or factory style fuel pump for the pressure needed to run the injectors.
I have a '68 Austin Healey Sprite for which I have considered a Miata drivetrain swap for some time. If given the choice, I would use the 1.8 engine from a '94-00. I wish you luck. |
Thank you, that will help. I looked at the 1.8 but it is 1" longer which is 1" to long.

I understand.
Beware of the short nose crankshaft that came on some of the earlier 1.6 engines. The keyway for the pulley gets badly chewed up over time which required replacement of the crankshaft. Please remove the pulley and inspect any possible 1.6 purchase for keyway damage prior to exchanging funds. Any knowledgeable Miata owner will understand and let you check this if they have nothing to hide. |
I have heard about that, I have been only looking at 92 and 93. I hope the motor & trans I am looking at this weekend has all the wiring and computer stuff. I have tried to find a list of the parts I need.

Here's a picture of my car it is going in.

Nice. Please post pics once you have the engine in the car. I'd love to see how it fits.

Good looking car, a friend of mine is doing the same thing. Is that a 68 or 69 GTO?
I pick-up a 1992 motor & trans over the weekend, now to figure out the wiring  http://toyanvil.smugmug.com/Hobbies/...RIMG0500-L.jpg http://toyanvil.smugmug.com/Hobbies/...RIMG0504-L.jpg |
