Default installing intake cone, any way to get rid of intake sensor?

Hello, here is juelkpl again. I am trying to install a cone air filter, but the air intake sensor is becoming bothersome, Do I really need it? Do any of you have cone air filters installed, if so, what did you do to make the installation less bothersome? I have a 1990, and I'm trying to fix this up in my garage, but I'm no mechanic. Thanks!

The MAF is necessary to tell the computer how much air the engine is taking in and therefore how much fuel to inject. It is easy to remove if you change out your stock ECU for a Megasquirt computer or some other standalone that uses a MAP sensor instead of the MAF. Then you can add a turbo as well...
