A/C and Fan problems

When I push in my A/C button it lights up, neither fans come on, compressor doesn't come on, blower motor comes on. Ok, so far I checked the fuses and relay in the engine compartment. Jumped the TFA and GND in the diagnostic box, condenser fan didn't come on, which from what I read should have. Where should I go from here?

Thanks,
Mark

Did it work before or is this a new to you car?

MF-Brain 04-11-2012 08:29 AM

you have to reset the tripper on the breaker fuse.

in the middle of the in-cabin fuse panel, there's a large black "breaker" with a red dot on it; press it.

EDIT: oh wait, blower comes on, but no fans/compressor? well could be too low of freon in the system, bad a/c relay, blown wiper fuse, or a bad thermoswitch in the evaporator box.

edit 2: I doubt its the wiper fuse, then the blue light wouldn't come on.

The car is "new" to me. BTW, I was jumping to the wrong GND in the Diagonostic box. LOL

The drivers side fan came on with the jumper between TFA and GND...that is the correct fan to come on, correct?

RedTurboMiata 04-11-2012 05:29 PM

driverside fan is activated by the temp, passenger side is ac exclusive, both should turn on when you press the ac button.

Low Freon would be my first item to check.

Markusj 04-11-2012 06:44 PM

Thank you, will post my results tomorrow. Great help!

Low freon wins the race! Yes, I now have ice cold air!..$63 to evacuate and charge with freon, very sweet deal!

Thanks to all for your help!

we are winners, Bruce!

Actually, driving home I felt like the winner! LOL...man I thought nothing but bad compressor, or something along those lines. So with the money I saved I ordered a Hard Dog rollbar. Win Win!

Anytime you have A/C in your car in Florida you are a winner. Outsiders just don't understand.

Markusj
did they do a leak test for you. If they had to do an evac and add freon then there is a leak somewhere.
On the 96 system there is a junction for the lines to connect ,they are down on the driver side front between the Radiator and motor.
If they have been jammed or hit then they willl leak all of the freon out over a short period of time. The connections have rubber o=rings in them and these get pinched or roll when bumped
If you can find them a lot of Ford cars had a set of clips that held the lines together .
I understand they will fit the miata as well

Southern Californians understand the A/C problem, but we don't get the humidity out here. Usually if it's warm enough to need A/C I just drop the top and put on a hat. But if it's TOO warm for that A/C is a necessity.

well if you where low on freon then you have a leak..ac system dont use freon by design...i hope you remembered to put some die in the system to find the leak
