Good day Tosha-Lyn and welcome to the forum. There are still some great buys out there for NA Miata's, just have someone check it out prior to the purchase!

Thanks!

OK then.....can anyone suggest a good / cheap place to purchase a CA approved CAT for my 97? Going the online route shows that they are fairly inexpensive IF your car is NOT from CA. Otherwise you can figure on doubling the cost here the "land of fruits and nuts"!

Rockauto didn't help?

No luck with that either. They only had them for the Mazda truck line. I did find that O'Reilly's Auto Parts has them at fairly reasonable prices so I will go to my local store and check it out. My main goal is to purchase one that is direct fit so I can do it myself. Hopefully no welding will be necessary.

It will go easier if you soak the studs and nuts holding everything together with PB Blaster for a couple of days beforehand. It really does make a difference.

Thanks sixshooter but what is PB Blaster? Is it a penetrating oil like WD40?

It is more of a penetrating oil than Water Displacement formula attempt #40. It does a better job at penetrating.
