Hello, new here, have had a 96, 1.8 for a year. It’s been fun and enlightening. Anyways, have read a ton of posts on crank gear, loctite fix, etc. I’m doing a TB water pump, can seals etc. Also, had a wobbly pulley,so......... Upon tear down I noticed a loose steering pump (argh), what appears to be a not original damper/ pulley, and a fairly new looking TB. Seems someone was already in motor, go figure. Also, no crank timing plate!!

Question: viewing photos, I’m thinking I should leave gear on crank and not tempt fate. Seems like someone already doctored it up a little. What say you??
