Default oil pressure gauge

on all my other vehicles I have had the oil pressure would increase and decrease with engine speed on the the guage. My miata jumps up to about 2/3 way to high and doesn't move at all from the time i start it til i turn it off. I think it is just the sender giving only one reading and it is shot, just wondering if anyone else have had this issue. I will probably be buying on at work and change it this weekend when i change my oil since it is near the filter anyway. Thanks for any advice.

89-93 are the only NA's with real oil pressure gauges. They switched to the on or off style for 94 on.

We don't have our own write up here yet, but this should help.

I got so used to the dummy gauge on my 95 that when I started driving the 92 it scared me. It still makes me nervous because I'm not sure what good oil pressure is normally for these cars. In a weird way I like the 95 gauge better. Ignorance is bliss...

it was wierd to get used to, but cold start i run 60-80, driving cold its in the 90+ range, and normal operation is generally under over 30 under 60. keep in mind i run 10w40

Sounds about like mine, it's just wierd to me that the needle covers the whole spectrum during driving. 60 psi is a huge range. I'm sure it's fine, just going to take some getting used to.
