HELP! 92 won't start
Rescued my 92 back from my son. Either he let somebody work on it or he did. Either way, AFS code and rough idle and stalled with throttle. I replaced the AFS today, codes are gone but now won't start.
It is getting spark but I suspect no fuel. I jumped the F/P and GND at diagnostic port and fuel pump comes on. I don't hear it with ignition switch and jumper removed. Any ideas out there?:sad2: |
Will it run with F/P and GND jumped?

Take line off of the fuel line, aim into a jug and turn the car on and see if anything comes out.

Now, I have the reconditioned AFS on and it won't even try to start. The fuel pump is quiet when I turn IGN to run unless I put the jumper to F/P and GND. Once I do that, I hear the pump and it still won't crank. It has had a couple of times where it seemed to fire but it was extremely short lived. I pulled the cover off the reconditioned one and all looks good and positioned properly. I'm about ready to re-install the old bad one to see if there is a second issue that popped up for no reason at all or maybe the reconditioned AFS is crap. On edit, There are no codes present. When I turn the key to run, I get an ENG light that goes out after a few seconds. There is no code after the light goes out. ??? |
sounds like the reconditioned one is no good, did you get it from an autoparts store? they should defect it out and give you another.

Just left the garage. 1. Battery bad and battery charger went out so I hooked up the jumper cables to my Jeep. Good power to elec sys. 2. Lifted the fuel rail to check for gas. Good fuel psi. Reconnected all and squirted starting fluid into intake, No start,,,BUT, THIS time I got a fault code 8 for open or short to the AFS. Maybe due to good voltage??? Seems my initial diagnosis was correct, Dang it!:bang: Now I got to go back to the supplier and return this one-his last. Get a refund and find another. Then back to the garage for round 2. Thanks to all. |
