Default Won't start---no spark?

Hello----I am new to the car---parked it in the garage and went to
restart. Nothing. Checked the spark and no cigar.

Any thoughts on basic trouble shooting appreciated.

Or common problems that might cause this.

Many thanks,

CJ

From looking around the posts i have decided the following check list:

---check cam belt first....just because it is easy...i think

---clean ignition switch/check power to dme

---check CAS

Any other thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

CJ

So it cranks but doesn't fire up or what exactly? Pull a spark plug and see if it is wet with fuel. That will help us some.

So when you turn the keys, there is no ticking sound? I had the same exact problem a few months back. Turn out the previous owner of my miata tried to get a car alarm installed, and did a very bad job at it. I got m miata towed to my mechanic and he found the car alarm thing on top of the starter, and it had burned out, blocking the spark into the starter. This is what happened to my miata.

I think he has other issues than a car alarm. I'm thinking a bad CAS but I hate to suggest you just start buying parts. If it had an aftermarket computer it would be easier to tell if it was getting a signal. I'll ask a tech I know for more ideas.

Where is the CAS located? Just set the timing belt and I'm getting fuel but no spark. Am I thinking this is the cam position sensor on the back or does CAS mean crank angle sensor?

if your working on a 91 like your profile says the cas is on the back of the head intake side

There is also a crank sensor on the front of the engine. Make sure everything is connected.

That's what it has to be. It's a 91 with a 95 1.8 using the flying Miata kit. I had it running after I swapped the motor but the owner was complaining about lousy gas mileage. Checked the timing and it was off one or two teeth. Reset the timing using mikes you tube video. Put everything together and no start. Changed out the cam sensor with the original one off of the 1.6 and still no luck. Will look for the crank sensor when I get back.
