You are quite a ways down there, but there is lots of stuff going on in Chicagoland.

Check out Windy City Miata Club WCMC

They do many autox events during the year and put on a great show. There are several other clubs that do events in the area such as Midwestern Council. As for track events, I personally participate in the local NASA group. They also host an autox at the Tire Rack in South Bend that usually has very low turn out which results in many runs. With young kid, I do more autox then track events right now.
As for car shows and other general local car stuff there is a forum called JDMChicago that arranges many summer meets called Saturday night lights in the city.
