New Cat. New O2 Sensors?
 

I have not had any indicator lights go on since I installed my new CAT.Converter. I have recently read that the sensors should both be changed when the Cat is. True or False? As a footnote, when I was installing the Cat I had one hell of a time getting the sensor threaded into its' place due to the wire lead twisting on itself as I screwed in the sensor. I eventually got the sensor into place and snugged up but the wire lead was coiled like a spring! Any help. ideas, thoughts, comments or suggestions happily accepted.

Sensors don't need to be changed with the cats. People selling parts will tell you things like that. I usually spin the sensor in the opposite direction from the direction I will be threading it in prior to trying to install it. When it goes in it gets unwound correctly. Or you can simply unclip it from the harness and unwind it.

How did you know that is who told I needed to d that? Anyway, by unclipping the thing do mean somehow unplugging it, letting it unwind and then plugging it back in? Can this plug be seen from under the car? Does it unplug easily or am I looking at a possible replacement if it doesn't? Yea I know, for an enthusiast, this guy sure ask alot of dumb questions!!!!

The O2 sensor unplugs from the harness within a couple or three feet or so of the sensor.

There is nothing about an oxygen sensor that will physically cause it to fail as a result of a catalytic converter becoming clogged or otherwise failing. They might recommend it for the sake of having a new and trouble-free component but other than that... You will get a check engine light if the O2 sensor is reading out of the norm on your '97 since it is an OBD2 equipped car.
