Newbee w/ Code 16 EGR valve
 

Hello,
I have the egr code 16, which only comes on once and awhile and only at idle as soon as i hit 1500 rpm it goes away. Other then that car runs great..

Any tips etc? I have been reading on Seafoam and Tecttron would ie be possible just to use this to corrcect the problem?

I suspect that the valve is still good but there must be a little gume somwhere,

seafoam original via vacuum source(read on it), clean throttle body and idle control valve.(seafoam deep creep works well for these).

You know I saw a video of a guy on U Tube who made a mix of creep/foam and put in in through the vacuum line behind the throttle body here:


When I wrote the Seafoam garage i was told really not much of anthing other then I would need just seafoam and some dissamble would be reeuired.??

In the video it says to put some in the oil, that I would not do as it possible could open up a can of worms.

Yea follow that video, plus clean the throttle body and the part right under it the idle air valve. Seafoam in the oil is for the time when you drive it to clean the carbon out, then u change the oil, it removes sludge buildup through the oil passages.

Understood but in the oil also could cause seal problems from what I have read in high mileage cars, mine has 52k on it and I really do not want to take that chance

i never use seafoam in the oil but it should help the egr code when pulled through the vac hose. Another option if you do not have to pass emissions testing is the egr delete.

and 52k is high millage :confused:, what would you consider mine 178k on the original motor turbo'd for near 20k :D

Quess its not high mileage then. I'm interested in the EGR delete will it affect MPG and performance? How hard is it to do and what cost?

Sorry for this noob question but I was just wondering, what is an EGR valve? Where is it located and what does it actually do to our car? Is it easy to remove or replace? I'm new to this stuffs and I want to learn more. Thanks.

if you have a 90-93 your car doesnt have an egr, but basically it pollution control. it runs behind the engine and the valve can get gummed up just like most of the other parts of the engine.
