Rear view camera miss used
 

So I have my jdm miata which means right hand drive. (bought mostly for the novelty, never owned a rhd car yet)
However, owing this car creates a problem on a 2 lane highway and semi trucks. My idea is to hook up a back up cam installed in my mirror to allow me to see past a semi truck. Good idea? Bad idea? I think it's neat however just wondering how good camera quality would be as I have a feeling I won't be able to see up coming traffic all that well.
Any thoughts?

I doubt you would be able to see all that well. If you bought a decent camera, plus a decent screen it might be worth it, but expensive.

You could just try the method where you move over far enough to see real quick. If there is traffic pull back over. If not, haul ass.

Stay in fast lane.
Turn head post checking mirror(s).

All kidding aside, I wouldn't waste the money on a camera. RHD cars just take a bit of time to get used to. It'll take a while, but keep moving the mirrors around to help with the blind spots. You'd think that it's just sitting on the other side of the car but alas, it is not... Best bet is to find a road with little traffic and bring a friend out to help you dial in the mirrors for RHD.

Been there done that. At least the Miata is narrow. If you had a wide car you would be waaayyy into oncoming traffic before you saw it coming. I don't know if a camera would give you the resolution to see if it was safe to pass but it might let you see far enough up the road to tell you if it was safe to swing out and take a look. That may be its true benefit. Have you thought about a flat mirror mounted just inside the passenger's A-pillar aimed where you can see that direction? It is cheaper than a camera and you can aim it. They make them with suction cup mounts so you could remove it if you didn't like where it was placed.

well i already have a nice big screen in the center of my car, and i checked for camera's on ebay and you can buy small ones for like $10. cheap and crappy, just figured i'd give it a try. if it doesn't work, then throw it away or pplace it else where.


Blind spots in a convertable? not with a broadway mirror. :) i can see 150º beinhd/beside me. i love that mirror in this car. i don't even use my side mirrors. can't see anything out of them anyway
