Default what is this?

I got under my daughters 94 Miata automatic today to inspect for damage following an accident. My question is on the bottom of the transmission I located a threaded hole about 1/2 inch in diameter on the underside that leads about 3/4 inch up into the transmission body with a small hole that looks like the bottom of some ball valve and there appear to be two small weep holes or a place for a pin to go into running side to side through the threads . It does not appear to be grimy like the rest of the underside so it makes me think something fell out or came unthreaded. The other puzzling part is that I do not see any plug or wires that are not connected or dangling. It's on the underside of the bell housing directly above a sway or torsion bar looking part though the torque converter is in the bell housing so I suppose that part makes sense. but I have yet to find a picture of a TCC that has any threads like the inside of the hole in the picture have. If anyone can advise a part number for the correct TCC and or the model number of the automatic transmission I would be eternally grateful. What is missing or what could it be?

Without a picture, and probably even with one, I'm stumped. I would contact a Mazda dealer's parts department and explain that you think you may be missing a part and see if you could get one of the parts guys to send you over some of the exploded parts diagrams to your work email or fax. That would be what I would do.

You might also find some help in a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual available from the local parts store.

I recommend Rosenthal Arlington Mazda for most OEM online purchases because of their low markup and prompt service. You might try calling them.

I'm sure they have scanners and faxes at the dealership.
