Roll Bar Choices

When I bought my 97 Miata, it had a "style bar" of chrome. Looks nice but I have been told that it really doesn't offer much protection in a rollover. So here is my question: what type of roll bar system would, just in case? I do not race but do drive with "spirit". I have seen single bar units as well as multiple bar set ups.I am most likely going to install myself along with assistance from my Miata club buddies.

West Coast folks choose Boss Frog mostly and East Coast choose Hard Dog from Bethania Garage. The Hard Dog M2 Sport with Double Diagonals is what I have. It is very good quality. Get the good padding and cover that goes with it and you won't go wrong.

If you get rear ended without the padding on any of them, including the style bar, they can split your melon wide open and leave you with a 100yd stare and a persistent drooling problem for the rest of your days.

Roll Bars

Thanks Sixshooter for your quick response. Those injuries are just what I had heard about for my present "style bars" and I would rather NOT learn about them from personal experience, thank you!
As for installation, can I do-it-myself or will it need to be a pro?

I've installed three sets of Hard Dog rollbars myself with just a power drill and various drill bits. I had no prior experience. It will require a helpful friend to assist in lifting the bar in and out of place. It is also useful to get a cheap Harbor Freight 90 degree drill extension for a couple of hard-to-reach spots.

I have talked to a couple of people and they have suggested the Hard dog deuce
roll bar
it is a newer design and will clear your head and still let you put the top up
I have seen one installed
You may want to take a look at it .this gives you full seat movement and use of both soft and hard top
