slave cylinder or adjustment

96 miata no modifications
The wife was driving home this afternoon and started to change gears and the clutch pedal goes to the floor .
She pulled over on the side of the road and as she stopped she tapped the pedal a couple of times and it came back up.
Being in traffic she had to shift up and down several times 20 plus and everything worked fine.
She gets to town and stops and goes into the store comes back out and cranks up and starts off in reverse and it did not want to shift into reverse
She gets home and I check it.
I push it to the floor and start to back up and the clutch engages when the pedal is about 2 inches off the floor
I tried it several times and still just as you come off the floor the clutch engages
There is roughly 32,000 miles on new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing ,and pilot bearing.
We have had no problem at all and this was sudden
Any ideas would you gamble on a slave cylinder or could the clutch just need adjusting
I know clutches without masters and slaves on them but not when they do
any help would be appreciated

i would try the adjustment first, unfortunately its in a spot that you have to be very flexible to get to though. if you didnt already know its under the dash on top of the clutch pedal assembly.

appreciate that and no did not know it was under the dash . I would have headed under the car.
Just odd it went with no warning at all, just one shift it was fine and the next one to the floor
I know with older cars it would get that weak feeling or slowly start realeaseing closer to the floor over time

The slave cyl are known to go out as well, mine went after 8 months. But when it went there was pressure with the motor off, but it wouldn't work while the motor was running.

Thanks again,I think it is the slave. I did look at the fluid and it is really dark . For the few bucks they cost I am just going to replace both of them to start

If you are looking to upgrade I understand that the Mazda speed had a stronger set.
