Yesterday I put new headers and cat back on my 93 na. The o2 sensor wire Isn't long enough to connect to the new bung. Is it safe to splice that with 16 gauge copper wire? Also when I went to crank it to check for leaks the car cranked but did not start. I am curious if that is because of the o2 sensor not registering. As far as i know when at idol the o2 sensor is control the afr so if it's not reading maybe the car is putting itself I a limo mode? And help is appreciated thanks guys

Yes, you can splice the wires. Beware the heat can melt butt connector plastic.

I don't think it is possible to keep it from starting from the o2 wires being disconnected. Something else must be off.

Thanks for the wisdom we wrapped the butt connector and reset the heat shield. I also found the problem. It was the maf sensor gasket was a little bit off so the vacuum pressure was not correct. I ran through the Hanes manual
Step by step trouble shooting every problem for engine stall. Amazing what those books can do.

What a coincidence...on this same subject matter, when I changed out my CAT. this summer, the o2 sensor lead was a real bitch to put into the new unit. I finally got it in but only after twisting it and the lead almost into a spring-like coil. I suspect that this method will come back one day to haunt me! I have learned that I should have unplugged the lead FIRST and then done the change out, replugging that lead after the sensor was installed! Should I undo what I've done or just wait it out? At 67, getting under the lifted car isn't as easy as it once was but I will do what is required to make this right.
