2001 mx5 throw out baring?

My 02 did the same thing. Oh I suspected a throw out bearing. After reading in another forum the squeak came from the pushrod and clutch fork. Simply place a dab of lithium grease on the end of your slave cylinder pushrod where it attaches to the clutch fork the squeak originates from that friction point. My Skweek immediately disappeared and has not returned in the last 10,000 miles

12String's recommendation should be attempted first, because it's dirt cheap and takes 30 seconds to try. But it's generally used when using the clutch pedal, because the piston is dry.

I would tend to agree it might be the throwout bearing, if it's squeeky on startup, without pedalling the clutch. If DIY, I'd recommend also inspecting the front input cover for wear (the shaft that the bearing slides on).

Not often. Most of the time, you just need a little grease on the pin at the slave cylinder where it pushes in the fork.
