Clutch decision.

I will be pulling the NB engine to do a crap ton of maintenance and what not. I'd like to replace the clutch while I'm in there since I have no idea when it was last replaced. It seems okay driving around, but I'd like to just do everything at once.

This car will not be turbo ANY time soon (think 3+ years). So a clutch that can hold 300+ ft/lbs is not really necessary.

Should I just go with an OEM clutch? Is there anything out there that is slightly better than OEM that is not uber expensive?

The only other clutch I've ever had is the FM one, and that seems like overkill.

Would something like an OEM EXEDY clutch be something worth getting?

I would move to a beefier 1.6L clutch. sounds silly, but they are great because its much lighter and if you get one that can handle say ~200hp then you should be set for all the NA power you want. better response, less rotating mass, lighter flywheel.

I came in here to suggest the FM happy meal, But that was assuming that you would be turbo'd. soooo... I cant really be of assistance, seeing as that is the only clutch I have used. Sorry.

Do you plan to run a lighter flywheel?

MF-Brain 10-14-2011 08:38 AM

the Exedy stage I is acutally good for a bit of power, still fairly cheap and feels stock.

Hrmm. Thanks for the advice so far.

So on to the next question which brain led into. Should I be getting a new FLYWHEEL? It seems fairly responsive now. And this is a DD. If I do get one, can I cheap out with like an F1 flywheel?

Edit: wrote clutch again instead of flywheel...

I've got the chromoly flywheel and it is better than stock but not too light or pricey. Clutch ACT ZM2-HDSS if better than stock slip resistance is important to you.
