Got the car possibly needs a retune?
alright so this is a 99 miata
engine info that is needed to help me vortex supercharger aem eugo (works funny, but possibly because of bad tune) boost gauge header and cat back i think. (haven't looked under it yet) my question is do i need to retune my voodoo box for a different altitude? i bought the car in orland, fl (sea level) and i live in manitoba. (238 metres (780 feet and 10.08 inches above sea level) it's taking me a full tank of gas to drive 130 miles. boosting maybe once or twice, otherwise all highway. my afr gauge normally doesn't stay at any consistant number. jumps around alot and sometimes is just blank. I'm curious if things are just soo rich that it cant read it properly? or maybe the sensor is shot. every know and then it reads a solid number but i have no idea weather to trust those numbers or not. thoughts? |
i dont think there's a way to adjust the voodoo box, but sounds really really really rich for cruise.
afrs should be fairly consistent (14.7) in cruise and the voodoo box shoudlnt even box doing anything outside of boost. are you able to get a good look a the injectors if you squint really hard? if so, what color are they? what sort of AFRs are you seeing? |
Injectors looked to be a redish color.
Wide band doesnt show a number consostantly. Its litterally ranging from 13-17.9ish I think the most common reading has been between 12.5-14. Sometimes even sitting around 14.7 sometimes. Maybe ill take a video for you guys. |
17.9 sounds very no bueno.
|
i would figure out how to recalibrate the sensor and then try again. 17.9 is definitely no bueno

yea try to figure out how to recalibrate it, i bet itll fix it a bit.
|
i'm gonna go try it now. $45 in fuel a day is to much for me
|
so i have things adjusted to what the factory fm specs suggest. i'll see how that does for fuel and then go from there.
I seem to have gotten that afr gauge a little more steady now. :) |

just a thought does it have something for fuel management, like a rising rate fuel pressure regulator?

not sure how much i could trust that gauge going all over the place like that.
do the injectors look like this: https://www.miataforumz.com/attachme...ine=1336052652 or https://www.miataforumz.com/attachme...ine=1336052652 does it drive like ass when the gauge is going crazy like that? |
i will check injector type again this afternoon when i get back to the car. I'm thinkin its the top one but not 100% sure
the only rising fpr is one of my little pots on the voodoo. i can adjust the pressure curve or something. i was reading a bunch last night but i have a lot of trouble reading and learning. i'm a see how it's done and then i can figure it out from there. |
If my gauge was going that bonkers in light cruise and the car drove normally (didnt hesistate or stumble) I'd be looking at replacing the WBo2.
If I was seeing 11.1:1 AFRs in light boost with partial throttle, I'd wish i was baller to be able to pay for gas. |
the guy mentioned the wbo2 might need replacing. are the sensors universal? i have an lc1 but this is an aem. haven't looked at either very close before. maybe someone can inform me so i don't have to crawl under my cars without needing to do so
|
they are the same sensor, but not connectors. you can look up the part number online.
still, youre uber rich obviously when it is working...gotta figure out why. report back on the injectors when you get a chance. |
ordered a wide band.
injectors are 260's. after adjusting things on my voodoo box, i'm getting WAAAAY better fuel mileage but now i'm thinkin it's leaning out when i step on it. power just isn't there anymore. new wideband in and i'll be good to go. until then i'll just drive nicely |
