High pitch squeak/chirp on bumps
I am getting this obnoxious squeak or chirp when I hit sharp bumps. I can't get it diagnosed because it won't happen I rock the car standing still. It also doesn't happen in the rain at all, so I know I gotta lubricate something. Since its suspension movement related, I was thinking swaybar, but I took it apart and relubed the bushing and it was still there.
Next is endlinks, which I will find out about tomorrow. Anyone else got suggestions for what to check out? I am running ES control arm bushings and stock bumpstops. Also, is it possible this is not suspension related? |
I would put my money on the control arm bushings. I've heard many complaints about squeaking after replacing them, and my personal experience is that only the factory ones stay perfectly quiet. . Miata noises are a real pain to diagnose though, they seem to always have some new rattle or squeak. You could check your exhaust hangars too, if they are hardened they will squeak.

preliminary driving indicates it was end links. I will update again in a few days.

Sure it's not just the sway bar mounts that need grease? when the end links fail, they tend to make a clunking noise on shock compression.
|
Well I greased those early last week and I still had the noise. the 949 endlinks seemed to rust a bit where the PTFE joint is, I just sprayed it down with teflon lubricant and the noise was gone today. Not really sure they failed, but perhaps my driving in the rain all the time is not good for them?
Nothing conclusive yet, we will find out if the noise comes back in the next few days. |
Ah. those are spherical?

949 doesn't call them spherical, but they pretty much are:

I LOVE the front standoffs. I have RB links in the front with the bar on full still and it was hell getting them installed...that would solve my problem...
