What oil do you use?

Changed the oil this past weekend using German Castrol 0-30W. AutoZone had a deal on it, and the oil nerds at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ seem to have a hard on for it. Car seems quieter at idle, and seems smoother running in the summer heat.

What does everyone else use?

Mazduh 08-02-2011 10:57 PM

Royal Purple 10w-30. Redline MTL for the transmission and Redline dif fluid.

I'm thinking about switching the transmission oil to Motorcraft though.

thirdgen 08-02-2011 10:58 PM

Castrol GTX 5w-30

I use the exact same stuff :O

djp0623 08-03-2011 08:46 AM

Rotella T6 5w-40 synthetic. I run this in everything, miata, echo, xterra, and next oil change the avalon

mgeoffriau 08-03-2011 08:55 AM

Another Rotella T6 5w40 convert. For performance, price, and availability, it's hard to beat.

Amsoil in the transmission and differential.

RotorNutFD3S 08-03-2011 09:00 AM

Rotella T6 here too, used it in my NA as well.

Redline in the trans and diff.

Track 08-03-2011 10:15 AM

I also use GC on the regular. I recently bought some 15w50 Redline to use during the summer especially for the track where its 100F ambient and my oil is like ------ water.

GC is great though, its pretty much a 0w40, so its a bit thicker than your average 0w30.

Rotella T6 Synthetic 50%
Rotella T6 30wt 50%

miata5620 08-03-2011 02:23 PM

I run Rotella T as well since I get it buy the case for the Roll Back it's really cheap and a great oil.

I like the t6

RotorNutFD3S 08-03-2011 03:49 PM

I think the T6 is what the plain "T" used to be, at least around here. The "T" (used to be 5w-40 full synthetic) became the conventional oil and the full sythetic became labeled T6. Same in other markets?

revlimiter 08-03-2011 06:22 PM

M1 0w40.

Yeah that is what they did I just always refer to it as "T" because of how long I have been using it in different things.

Pennzoil 10w-30 or 5w-30 depends on the time of year

nsimpson89 08-08-2011 07:52 PM

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 10W30. It's amazing, car runs quiet, smooth, and it lasts seemingly forever.

TorqueZombie 08-12-2011 10:53 AM

Mobil 1 10-30 in the motor and redline in the drivetrain. Going to switch to 10-40 next change withthe heat here unless the temps drop.

Doppelgänger 08-12-2011 03:29 PM

Mobil1 isn't true synthetic ;) read up on it. True synthetics are RedLine, Royal Purple, AMS Oil, Motul and Rotella, to name a few.

I run Rotella synthetic. Never had a problem.

Good to know

RavynX 08-15-2011 03:05 PM

Engine: Castrol Edge 5w-30
Transmission: Amsoil MTF
Differential: Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 or 75w-110

There's a guy that tracks in our area than ran a Blackstone Laboratories report on Rotella and it came back with excellent results and minimal wear. Same as my Amsoil report.

add German Castrol 0w30 to the list of true synthetics. But its the only true synthetic made by Castrol.

T6 5w40 makes my car happy.

I've used diesel oil in several older vehicles and they seem to like it but can be sluggish until warm.

Same here...Miata, Mazda2, XTerra, and all the bikes.

loki34 08-17-2011 02:21 PM

Mobil 1 0w-40 in the engine and valvoline 75w-140 in the diff with Royal Purple in the tranny.

saedrin 08-17-2011 03:35 PM

AMSoil everywhere, I don't remember the weights.

turbotyla 08-17-2011 07:16 PM

i run t6. i hate mobil 1

lo/rez 08-23-2011 08:30 AM

Mobil 1 0w-40 in the engine
Redline for tranny and diff

Bigblue 08-29-2011 08:44 PM

M1 0-40

Palmtree 08-29-2011 09:50 PM

M1 10-30

Dem768 08-30-2011 01:28 PM

Rotella T

Redline for the diff.

Haze 08-31-2011 08:59 AM

mobil 1 10 w 30

bigx5murf 09-12-2011 02:04 AM

I use whatever 5w30 full synthetic is on sale. I change my oil once a year, and being a weekend toy, I only put on 2-3k per year.

EvoRoadster 09-17-2011 12:18 AM

Mobil 1 96989 0W-40 since that is what is used in the Porsche and I can't see having 2 different types around. And yes, it is a full synthetic.

XJ220sc 11-18-2011 12:29 AM

I go with Rotella T6 5w40

Boomer 07-02-2013 06:32 PM

Engine: Amsoil 5w/30
Tranny: Amsoil 75/90 GL4
Diff: Amsoil 75/90 GL5
I bought my 2001 LS 5-speed with 82K miles on it and dino oil/lube in it. I switched to full synthetic immediately and it burns no oil and shifts better than when I got it.

PookieBear 07-02-2013 10:29 PM

Shell rotella or mostly any 5w-30 oil.

Boomer 07-03-2013 06:31 AM

I think all of the brand name full synthetic oils are good. The only critical point is making sure GL-4 goes into the transmission and GL-5 goes into the differential.
