Default 2007 Miata Instrument Cluster Odometer LCD Display Issue

My Odometer LCD is acting very strange. When I start the car after it has been off for a number of hours the display appears normal. Within a few minutes of the ignition switch turned on ( with or without engine start ) the display starts to fade. Within about 5 min it has lost many segments within the LCD display and is also very faded. If I drive around for an hour or so it comes back to normal and stays that way for a number of hours at which point the missing segments appear. If I leave the car off for a number of hours ( such as overnight) I am back to a normal display until the ignition switch is turned on and then the above process repeats itself.
It does not appear to be a loose connection or temperature related.
Has anyone had this issue and if so what was the fix?
Thanks,
Jerry

Default sounds like a battery problem

Miata are very sensitive to bad batteries. Have the battery checked both statically and under load.
