Seatbelt Retractor Replacement
 

Does any have any information or manual for what part and how to replace a seatbelt retractor? My driver side seatbelt does not retract for crap anymore, and I'd like to replace it. I can't seem to find anything worth a damn doing a basic google search, so thougth I'd put the question out here for anyone that knows more than me (which shouldn't be hard to do).

Well, you can get a new one from Mazda SEAT BELT, LEFT (NA75-57-630G-00) - $222.93 - NA7557630G00

or you could look for a good used one at the U-Pull-It junkyard for ~$12. It takes a 14mm and 10mm on an NB and a 17mm and a 10mm (if I don't have that wrong) on an NA.

Thanks six, is it pretty straight forward to drop in? Is there any reason I should think about pulling off the current one and trying to fix it? (Could it be as easy as adding grease/lube?)

I would search out a newer one that works well from a junkyard as an alternative, also.

Cleaning and lightly lubing yours will possibly help it. Springs can get weak over time, though. Just be careful not to get any lube on the belt or it will ruin your clothes.

Thanks for the info., I'll be looking to do the same. I'm always amazed that parts like a seat belt retractor aren't shared with other models.

The retractor locking mechanism may be the same but the mounting bracketry will often be different for different car designs from the same manufacturer since some are floor mount or pillar mount. The belt length included on the unit will also probably be different on a Miata versus a larger vehicle.

I'd clean it first before replacing it.
 

I had the same issue on my 2007 Grand Touring. I pulled the belt all the way out. Then I cleaned it with soapy water and let it dry. Then I sprayed the belt (not the mechanism) with silicon spray lube. It now fully retracts. Much cheaper than replacing it.
