Im visiting from over the pond, have recently picked up a 97 Eunos VR-Limited and loving it so far.
https://www.miataforumz.com/attachme...ine=1354021064 Straight in with the issues though, Im trying to set the base idle, but when I join the TEN and GRD pins both fans come on, doesnt matter if the car is cold or hot, has anyone experienced this before? Hope someone can help, electrics gremlins are my pet hate :bang: Look forward to having a nose round. |
welcome to MFz, what front end is that?
and on with your issue, i guess i would make sure there are no pins touching one another inside the box and beyond that i wouldn't know where to begin. |
BTW, Welcome!
I thought that is the intent of joining the TEN and GRD to test your fans and bypass your thermal switch or am I confusing with something else. |

you silly NAs and setting your idles
|
Im wondering if its because there is an underlying issue that it is highlighting, people have said just unplug the fans and set it, but theres no way of knowing if its actually holding the timing and base idle...

Welcome! Wow nice looking car. I always wanted and still do a lotus europa. Everyone in the states hates them and thinks they are ugly. Seems only the British get that car.

Yeah it looked awesome
https://www.miataforumz.com/attachme...ine=1357926544 Have reshelled it as that shell was rotten, sills and rear arches were crap. Now have a solid shell with the 1.8 running gear in it, but still the same stupid electrics issue. https://www.miataforumz.com/attachme...ine=1357926544 [img]https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/398118_10152436974030711_138413229_n.jpg/img] https://www.miataforumz.com/attachme...ine=1357926544 |
Never did find out what front end you have on your car. Looks like eight inch wide rims. I rolled my fenders very hard and stretched them with Eastwood fender roller and fit eights easily. Going to see if nines well fit. Im a rim ----- but one of the sets i run is 15×8 with a20 MM offset. Konig wideopen with the polished lip. Difusers on the side of your car would push it over the edge nice. There are two different styles both are awesome.. Well check into your fan coming on problem but there are alot of strange variables in that can of worms. Aaron

its a Mazdaspeed front lip

Ten and gnd should never effect fans. Is any of the harness obviously butchered?

We had the complete harness out of the car, nothing I could see was obviously chopped/spliced/damaged :(

Ive changed all sorts now, fuses/relays/Idle control sensor/water temp sender.
Also cannot get it to idle below 1100rpm getting increasingly frustrated with it |
On my car the throttle body gasket was shot(was like three dollars at O'rielie's . The IAC was also bad and still is. Because of that engine runs rich poor gas mileage.
|
Ive put in a new TB gasket and a different Idle control valve, have also put a new lambda in, same high idle, I will wait to see if the mpg improves slightly now the lambda has been changed, averaged around 180 miles on the last 2 full tanks of fuel...
For a little while it was idling at 1800 rpm when coming to a stop at traffic lights!! :/ This is a timelapse of the reshell AREA 52 - Eunos Reshell Timelapse on Vimeo |
Have you tried adjusting the air bleed screw?
|
Yes, but haven't buckled down and done a real thorough vacuum leak test.
As far as Sams car goes i would put a multi meter on it on the positive side and see if there is continuity to ground. |
You can lower the idle with the screw but after a few drives it creeps back up
|
HOOO BLOODY RAY
today I finally got round to checking the base timing... a previous owner claimed it had the 14deg mod on it, when checked it was actually set at 22deg!! Ive put it back down to 14 now the idle dropped down immediately and I was able to adjust the base idle down too, Ive taken it for a good thrash and happy to report its now sitting below 1000 :D Now I just have to sort out the slight bouncing, Im guessing its a vacuum leak somewhere, so I will set about checking all the vac hoses for any leaks. 1 victory anyway |
That's good news. The high idle was just the engine trying to keep up with the bad timing, huh? Interesting.
|
I've no idea how long its been running that high hopefully its done no damage :/
