Default newbie battery caught fire!!

Replaced battery and still nothing. What next? last rights? Very small fire the size of a quarter melted rug and car dies with out any life. Is there some fusible links that regulate all incoming power in the engine compartment? I probably don't know what I am talking about and need some help, PLEASE, someone out there, IM over here...
Thanks
Roger

There is possibly a direct short somewhere that caused the fire. The main positive lead going to the starter is not fused and I don't think the one for the alternator is either. There are wiring diagrams on this forum that may help you find everything.
