Newbie from NC with a NA

Hi I am Thomas nice to meet you all. I have been wanting an NA miata for a few yrs now but seemed like every time i had the cash to buy one something came up and i had to use it for that, but finally I got the chance to buy one a few days ago. Just so happened it was only 2 miles down the rd and had everything i was looking for in one pretty much. It is a 1996 Mx5 miata, Manual trans of course. It is pretty much completely stock other then the cone filter the previous owner put on it and a chrome roll bar, but i will probably change that soon, the filter and the stock part, plan on starting with some basic handling up grades. My other passions are spending time with my 2 girls that are 4 and 6, Fishing and also doing things to my 94 z71 ecsb truck. I hope to learn a lot on here. This is my first mazda and only my second import car and my second manual transmission car I have owned. Other then one raggedy old plymouth k car wagon, everything else i have owned has been GM products. I work in Auto parts, so I now what are common problems with most cars, only thing I ever remember selling for miata's other then tune up and regular mataince items is Radiators which this car has a brand new one in. I will try and get the dslr out soon and get some good pics of it clean once the weather breaks and I get a day off.

Welcome, Welcome! As someone who sells auto parts you must know that htese little cars are pretty much bulletproof. Even "weak" parts last forever and are cheap to replace. I concur that you should go back to the factory intake unless you are going with FI. I experimented with several intakes and they all had a negative effect on the car.

Pics or it didn't happen! :D

This place is getting thick with Carolinians.

I wore the red shirt of a counter man at Advanced Auto for a few years in college. There is nothing more satisfying than helping someone find a water pump when all they know about their car is that it's a Buick; they don't know year or model or engine size or even how many cylinders.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I worked for Advance for a while, I'm an Assistant manager for Oreilly's now. Had one today that came in and just said they needed and oil change for a 2011 dodge, she didn't know what kind it was at all lol, seems to be at least 1 or 2 a day that have no idea what the drive or what size engine is in the car. I will get some pics up soon just been working all day and it is dark when I home. I am working on replacing any soft hoses on the car, and meant to get a radiator cap today at work and forgot, I noticed when I took it off this morning after I put coolant in from replacing the top radiator hose that the rubber seal was in rough shape on the cap and tonight when I got home I noticed a little steam in my head lights. The cap went to leaking. I hope to get to meet some of the fellow Carolinian's sometime this Summer.

It was dirty in this pic right after i got it home, the guy i got it from was daily driving it up til i brought it, i got it all cleaned up now, well had it all cleaned up til it rained again. I will get some nice clean pics soon. She isn't perfect but not bad at all for a 96 model car.

Tom,

Just want to warn you, what you have is a chrome style bar, not a roll bar.

Roll bars are structural and require trangulation to not cave in (although the HD Hard Bar offers some protection, mostly due to the lack of "leverage"). While there are MANY heated discussions at other forums discussing the merits of a rollbar vs. style bar vs. no bar, I will go ahead and tell you that a style bar posses more danger than protection.

If you like that style and want a roll bar, look into the Boss Frog Double hoop. Otherwise, you can go with a single hoop roll bar which tend to be cheaper.
