Mitsubishi Eclipse Hate
So my sister has a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS. The car has caused us nothing but problems for the last year. The newest problem is the hood latch cable broke inside the latch mechanism. after 3 weeks of playing around with it, i have got no where with it. :bang:i have the extreme desire to light that bitch on fire ( the car not my sister). :firedevil: called the mitsubishi stealership, and all they would say is bring it in we can fix it. :bang:

Its a 9 year old car. ---- isnt made like the old Delta 88s of way back when. How much is the dealership charging? All the dealers are the same around here too. What seems like a simple fail turns out to be multiple parts being replaced with the bonus of the "oh by the way the next time you are in you may want to look at".... I always giggle about the $2200 brake job for my SRT8. Anyhow, since you arent winning torch the bitch, post pictures of your sister :) Are you able to pop the hood from underneath the car with a long flat head? |
Googles said this to me:
If you peek between the hood and front fascia (bumper) with the flashlight you'll be able to see the latch mechanism. Looking at the front of the mechanism you can see the U shaped bottom part of the latch. Near the bottom right side of the U there is a small vertical hole, just about the right size for the tip of that screwdriver I mentioned. Stick the screwdriver in the hole at an angle (as if you were pointing the screwdriver at the passenger door). Then lever the screwdriver to the left, like you're flicking a big switch, and you'll catch the release mechanism, and the hood will pop up just as if you had pulled the release. |

Bahahaha! |
no. I rock a HT. I used my hood prop.
mitsubishi designed it to be protected so someone couldnt break into the under hood area, go figure right. so you see very little of it, and what you see is not enough to pop the hood.
IDK the tid bit I grabbed from the nets said you could do it. But I do not have an Eclipse so I don't know. If you are saying not possible then I believe you.
I say go from the bottom, but you will need a very long screw driver. |
the cutoff wheels are looking good. but she will probably be taking it to the stealership because im just getting pissed of with it.
well the theory is true, when all else fails use a bigger hammer. turns out if you hit the latch in the right spot it pops right open.
Nice! Hammer = 1 Latch = 0
now to figure out the next step. lighting it on fire is not out of the question still.
Have you tried going from under the car yet? Getting to the latch from under should be no problem. That's probably what the dealership is going to do.

I figure not everyone knows how incredibly easy it is to flip the lock switch with any sort of random stick you find laying aorund on the street.
exactly, that scared
i just leave it unlocked, i figgure its cheaper to replace whatever they take than the top or door.
Unless you live near Montreal, it's 52$ for an unlocked door in the streets, drive way and parking lot, but you can leave car with the top down if your doors are locked and you'll be fine

Yes, and directly from the police itself.
They put the ticket on your seat and lock the doors It happens twice at one of my friend, once at work, then in front of it's house in the street. They say it's to avoid thieft from stolen cars and then reduce insurance reclamation. I personnaly think this is just a way to make more money and not just by giving more tickets, but this way they have more time to do radars on the highway or looking at stop sign, which bring back WAY more money than investigating for a stolen car. I don't how the cops are in the U.S.A., but here, I think they are quite a PITA. By example, if you drive 100 mph on the highway (60 mph limit) you lose your licence, get a $1000 fine and they tow your car immediatly. Can't tell if it's that bad, but 5 years ago you'll have only lose half of your points and had to pay half of that. I know there is worst place then here;) |

hook your door handle up to twelve volts so it shocks them when they touch the handle, bet they wont want to check it again.

:p |
just got to find a way to hook the negative, but hook it to a toggle in your trunk so you dont shock yourself ever time.
you put the negative on the back of the handle, he would have to put a finger under there to open the door :P
yea that'll work, cop wont know what happened.
and I could use a big capacitor over this :P
The big snap is worth it, must use an independant battery, but look like it would be funny :P |
you could use a small lawn motor battery.
I have a few spare batteries , some 12v and 18v for emergency light systems
that will work well. and if they ask why your car shocked them, tell them its your security system.
