In the words of MT.net...
"Hookers and Blow"

aaronc7 03-10-2012 08:57 AM

what he said

y8s 03-10-2012 08:57 AM

pay off debt above 4% interest rate (make sure you have 20% equity in your house to avoid PMI) and invest 90% of the rest in the 'daq and S&P after making sure we're not expecting a market correction or the Greece deal to fall through.

Spend the remaining 10% of what's left on hookers and blow and fun stuff.

I'm a naive believer in the market recovering faster than 4% / year over the next several years.

thirdgen 03-10-2012 10:52 AM

I would pay off my house and retire, sort of. What I mean is, I wouldn't have debt then, and I'd still have like 200k left over easily. I still need my 401k and medical benefits, so I'd go to work and do a Tyler Durden and end up like this:

y8s 03-10-2012 11:35 AM

lol at paying off house and still having 200k left over. not in the dc metropolitan region!

ZippyMX-5 03-10-2012 12:53 PM

Buy a house and get my engineering degree.

curly 03-10-2012 01:31 PM

Pay off house, cars, and some remodeling. That'll leave me and my girlfriend with $2050 extra a month, and without remodeling, $70,000. Are "wants" are fairly low key. Some new furniture, finish the deck out back along with landscaping, add a central air unit and extend our fence along the side so my dog has a little more room to play. I think we'd still have around $50,000 left.

My girlfriend would then demand a ring and vacation, neither of which I'd object to. After that, we'd probably pay off a student loan or two, put some money away, boring ---- like that.

If I had any money to my miata, as this is a miata site, I'd probably be fairly conservative. A TSE motor, 949 clutch, Xida coilovers, Abe would have to build me a 1.8 setup, and a dedicated set of 6uls with NT01s.

This would take away nearly all our currently planned expenses and together net us around $2500 extra per month, which can pay off other debt and expenses incredibly quick, and make our life extremely comfortable. Thanks -------.

RedTurboMiata 03-10-2012 02:58 PM

finish college, buy house equals out to around 170-190k
house would have a separated garage, make that insulated and heated with a lift. 20k
spend 10k on a dd and keep the miata. put the rest in CD's with high interest rates.

I just spent 10k to build a 24x32' garage and I don't even have electric or concrete out there yet. I bet after concrete, insulation, heat, electric, garage door openers, and a lift...maybe 20k would be possible.

RedTurboMiata 03-10-2012 09:26 PM

i would do most it myself because i enjoy a good project. i wouldn't touch electrical though

toms96mx5 03-11-2012 08:26 AM

Being that I live in the house with my dad since my mom passed away and one day this house and land will be mine anyway, I would probably spend about 20k doing a little remodeling in the house especially on the bathrooms. I would build a nice big patio out back, and spend 8k on a nice zeroturn mower to mow the grass since we have almost 14 acres of land and half of it is grass. I would put 50k a peice aside for both of my daughters into a college/nest egg fund for them for when they get older. Invest about 100k, possibly buy me a 2500 hd duramax 4x4 truck, and i would supercharge, paint and do coil overs and some other odds and ends on the miata. That would account for most of it, I have a whole entire whopping 2500$ in debt so I don't have debt to pay off like most people thankfully.

FRT_Fun 03-11-2012 10:54 AM

300k hrmmm...

Pay off car and student loan ~7k
Sell my MR2 finally +~7k
Purchase a nice DD ~25k
Give 10k to bro and mother 20k
Build a house with badass garage 110k (Georgia lol)
Build computer lab in said house ~20k
Invest the rest.

300k would cover a nice down payment on a new house, closing costs, furniture, moving costs, and maybe 2 down payments on new DDers.

with a little leftover to put in the bank.

y8s 03-12-2012 09:23 AM

the bank!?

the bank...

you mean where they pay you 0.23% interest?

MF-Brain 03-12-2012 09:46 AM

it used to be 5%. I think it's 0.19% now.

sixshooter 03-12-2012 09:58 PM

Pay off both houses, fund my 401k as fully as possible out of my regular pay to catch up from neglecting it for 4 years, fund my Roth up to the annual legal limit, ditto on both of those for the wife's 401k and Roth, take a vacation this summer to Anguilla again, and put most of the rest in a Vanguard small cap or mid cap index fund to park it and let it work. I would probably re-sod the yard, trim some large trees back, and dredge the opening to my little cove up at the lake for a deeper draft boat. I would probably invest in Xidas, some RS3's, and forged rods and pistons being installed, but that's about it. My wife wants to go someplace exotic like Dubai for a vacation so I would probably do that as well.

That's more than all of it I'm sure.

RattleTrap 03-12-2012 11:28 PM

Go to college.

Look for jobs where I could intern part-time and learn a new career. Something I would at least like this time.

Put new flooring, new windows and new efficient AC in my GF's home.
Buy myself a decent home with a garage.
Build my Coyote V8 Miata and a Volks-rod.
Invest the rest.

Either all that, or buy a tank of gas...

dieselmiata 03-13-2012 12:18 AM

Start a garage. My dream job is doing everyday what I do to my Miatas, and 300k would get me started. My father does it to Mustangs and he does pretty well for himself, I'm sure I could do alright with fixing up and selling old imports.

Also I would add to the stable a 94 B&T, a 2005 Mazdaspeed in Velocity red, and my wife would finally get her Bright red FD RX-7:D

flying_solo 03-13-2012 10:03 AM

I would probably be doing a lot of what Six suggested. I would love to buy a Waco Biplane, but TCO is just ridiculous. I hear people back and forth about paying off the house, so I probably wouldn't pay it off, but would pay it down. I'd pay off the wifes truck and buy some land for a garage and some cows. Maybe, I would provide the property for Aaron's garage that I would love to be his silent backer in. As for cool car purchase, I change my mind almost as much as I change my underwear. Early 80s 911, S2k, Lotus, or wait a few years for the TDI and then swap it for the new Golf R. I can't decide and the wife would yell at me anyway.

Most of this is already in the works, being handed $300k I didn't work for is even better.

then hire me lol.

saedrin 03-22-2012 01:29 AM

Easy.

E39 M5, dark gray, bolt ons.
Caterham chassis, powered by an ITB'd 20b.
Ultralight aircraft, preferably something with two seats and a covered cockpit.
Downtown Chicago Loop apartment, 1 bedroom, garage space for the cars.
Whatever is left invested into assorted promising tech firms.

Schadenfreude 03-22-2012 08:01 AM

I'd get one of these.

In matte white.

flying_solo 03-22-2012 10:47 AM

hah, you would burn through that $300k fast.

Tallgeese 03-22-2012 11:44 AM

Finish the car the way I would like it.

-30mm fenders
-RB2 front end
-15x10 6UL's
-Pay a tire company to make me some decent street rubber :p
-TSE bottom end
-Race port head
-Have cams ground to similar specs of Eliminator's car
-ARtech top mount single scroll
-SP QSV
-Holset HX60 w/ Bullseye Power BatMoWheel Billet upgrade
-3.5" exhaust
-Tune to a comfortable 600-700whp
-Hard park with drift charms and challenge people to 90 rolls

Invest some money and learn how to trade stocks. Still join the military

flying_solo 03-22-2012 11:55 AM

hahahah

Tune to a comfortable 600-700whp

Tallgeese 03-22-2012 01:41 PM

lol, you laugh like you think it's a joke, haha.

flying_solo 03-22-2012 01:44 PM

I just want to see a comfortable 600 - 700 HP out of a stroked 1.8L. I bet you can you do it, I'm curious what constitutes comfortable though.

Tallgeese 03-23-2012 01:19 AM

Stroker motors are a waste of money. I'll be using my B6. Comfortable is all about preferences. Once you've driven a 1000+whp car nothing is ever the same.
