Default NB double-DIN Bose "MD/TAPE" selector help

I need to know what happens on a Bose unit with no minidisc, no tape player, & no aux input, when the "MD/TAPE" selector is depressed. Does the display change at all, or does the "MD/TAPE" selector have no effect at all, since nothing is connected to that input? In other words, you're driving down the road, listening to the radio,(or a CD), & you select "MD/TAPE". What happens if you do this & you don't have a minidisc player, or a cassette player, or an auxiliary input installed? Does the Bose display switch to "TAPE", & is the audio output muted because you've got no tape player, or does nothing happen & the radio (or CD) continue playing?

I have no experience with this unit. You might check here for that one.

I had a tape player and removed it. When I pressed the button, nothing happened.
