Default Door speakers

Hey everyone,

New Miata owner here. I'm looking for any information regarding the stock door speakers, specifically size and depth. I would like to replace them but other than pulling them out and examining them I cannot seem to find any reliable information about them. I know many of the new higher end speakers are going to have a more substantial depth to them over the stock so I want to keep that in mind. Has anybody found any specific decent speakers that will drop right into the existing holes? I would rather buy a set before I start messing with them, If I have to pull them out I will, just hoping to avoid that. Thanks ahead of time for any input you might be able to provide.

I think they were 5.25 but a lot of people upgrade them to 6 inch. I don't think there are any interference issues with depth on our cars. There isn't much in that part of the door.

Ok, good to know. I noticed the panel that covers the speaker comes off rather easily so maybe this weekend I'll take a gander. I ran into a nightmare scenario with my WRX and door speakers with depth that has me a little gun shy on what I purchase this time, I guess I will just have to do a little measuring to be certain. From the research I have done, it sounds as if most folks were able to get whatever speakers they wanted to work.
