Default Big Puddle in Driver Side

Over the weekend, I had to leave my '92 Miata parked outside, something I don't typically do. Well, we got 3.5" of rain this weekend, and when I returned to my car, I found a small lake in the driver side half of the car. I experienced puddles after getting a new convertible roof installed, so I initially thought I was back to that issue again.

Oddly, the driver seat was dry and only half the passenger seat was damp (not soaking) but there was a large puddle in the floor of the driver side (not even damp on the passenger floor). The vertical surfaces of the interior were dry (beneath the back and side windows), which indicated to me that most of the water didn't come from a leak in the convertible roof and trickle down to the floor, but got in somewhere else. I'm sure the passenger seat dampness must have been from some leak where the door meets the passenger window, but I don't think it was the reason for the driver side puddle.

As I drove home, I heard that all-too-familiar sloshing sound that indicated that the drainage holes on the driver-side door were plugged again, trapping water within the door. I stuck a nail up in that spot and water came pouring out.

So my question is, could enough water have gotten trapped inside the door to cause it to spill into the interior of the car? Is that likely where the puddle came from?
