What suspension are YOU running?

Let's take a survey of what your car rides on. Post up your type, spring rate (if applicable), ride height, sway bars, endlinks, and mostly, how you like it and how it rides.

I'll go first.

Ohlins DFV (Goodwin Racing custom valving and spring rate)
25-way adjustable
12k front and 8k rear springs
running 11.25" front and 11.75r hub-to-fender
Flyin' Miata/Whiteline sway bars running stiff/short setting up front and loose/long setting in the rear.
949Racing endlinks

The Ohlins ride hard/firm but not annoyingly bumpy. Road bumps are met with a quick jolt but no shudder and mid-corner bumps are absorbed with little or no upset to steering or the car. Generally run them 6-12 clicks from full stiff on the front and 8-14 from full stiff in the rear. Typical of NBs, the rear has limited travel and on large bumps the rear bumpstop gets a punch in the face. They've been on the car for nearly 5 years and show no wear, no damage from road debris and no leaks.

An old pic for fun...(note- the Flyin'Miata/Whiteline endlinks are no longer on the car).

Quick question Mike, Have you had to have them rebuilt yet?

Chicksdigmiatas 08-01-2011 05:57 PM

Not as cool as you brah. I have factory MSM suspension on my NA with the biggest front sway that RB had at the time. It is semi-comfy on the street, and semi-competitive on the auto-x (STS) as in I have won more than once with it. I doubt I could run SM with it.

I've got NB Bilsteins and tophats on my '96 and am currently swapping springs back and forth looking for something I like. I have the Racing Beat springs on the rear since this weekend and they still seem a little light. I can't recall which front springs are currently on the car because I have three sets I have been trying out. It sits a little lower because of the NB tophats but I have no measurements at present. I spent most of this weekend's available wrenching time installing a Kirkey aluminum racing seat to get my helmet lower than my Hard Dog and getting it adjusted for fitment. I've just started putting more time into the Miata after leaving it on the back burner for quite a while.

I have not but it's something I keep in the back of my mind. I really don't know how long to expect out of them.

I have bilsitien pss9 and h&r sway bars both front and rear for a year on a 99 miata, valving and springs what it came with. running 1 (stiffest setting) in the front and 2 in the rear. Ride height of 12.25 in front 12.50 in rear. sway bars both on stiffest.

what i like
- corners with well control body roll
- still works with out breaking my spine with stiff setting on shock
- can still deal with small and mid size bump (it still hard but i like that tuned car feel)
- can lower the damping setting to close to stock

what i dont like
- the diffence in stiffness between 1 and 2 is huge then 2 to 8 is close then 9 is far too soft to use
-the cost ( tein is cheaper and the damping setting are closer)

would i buy again
I think ill try tein first.

FM spring/shocks set to 3 ft/rr, swaybars on soft setting on the NB. FM springs 1/2 dead coil cut=1/4in lower, shocks, sways, poly bushing at all 4 corners and all sways and endlinks, delrin diff mounts, FM upper hats in rear, sways on soft setting, shocks on 3 ft/rr, full butterfly brace on the NA. The NA is on rails on the street but takes bumps and harsh roads well. The NB is the baby of the 2 so working it one piece at a time, rails and poly is next. Might put the NB on AFCO's next year.
