Intercooler piping
I've always wondered where turbo DIYers get their intercooler piping setups?
I know obviously I could get something custom bent up. But on my msm in particular I'd love to just be able to buy something that will work when I go bigger turbo. I know FM does like a silicon hose thing, I'm not sure what begi does. I don't know if you guy's have seen the msm IC piping setup but it's pretty stupid. I'd like to go with about a half inch bigger pipe and delete all the flexible rubber hoses with hard piping. The few people I've brought this up with on ms.com forums say I need to keep it like how it is because if I go all hard piping the motor's movement will move/bend the piping. But that doesn't make sense to me since I know there's lots of diy turbo NB's out there with custom IC setups. I overall just want it to look nicer and be more solid with the theory in mind I might spool a little quicker on the stocker IHI turbo. But to possibly be flexible enough for when I do decide to upgrade turbo's It won't take much work to adapt. |
ebay is a good place to start. These guys make some top notch silicone parts, I can attest to that as I have used 3 different ebay sellers for silicone and these were by far the highest quality.
www.siliconeintakes.com Put together the parts, I think you will probably find on MT some info on whats required. let me know if you need any pictures of the silicone or anything for comparative purposes. |

Second thought; You have a MSM, so the FM silicone hotside piece won't work with your IHI unless you clock the compressor housing down.

Making your own makes it much easier to adjust when you switch things around. I recently installed a much larger turbo and clocked the housing down; took me all of an hour to have my hotside completed for the new turbo. |
So the ebay kits you guy's are talking about, are you referring to those universal ones? Like this?
Can someone link me? |

If I ever decide to go big turbo, I'd steal aaron's setup. I like how pipe length is pretty much minimized, which should help with spool, especially on a bigger turbo. Although with this setup ic size will be limited.

thanks baby <3
biggest IC you can run on this setup if you keep AC is pretty much the size that TDR uses...i forget exact measurements, but it's on their site. I got a custom core made from ETS that is basically the exact same dimensions. If you ditch the AC, that drier thing will give you a lot more space |
