hmmm, broken valve spring? what do you mean she let loose?

Dirtyturbo 03-12-2012 06:11 PM

One cylinder died and completly and blowing a steady smoke screen... either toasted piston rings or i totally blew my headgasket out... got a new engine on the stand at work though im bout to start going through so ill find out what exactly failed after i get the new one all freshened up and in the car..

Track 03-12-2012 06:17 PM

yea but unless the ring is non-existant, it should still have some compression or something...

Investigate! I am curious.

Dirtyturbo 03-12-2012 06:26 PM

Oh im curious too! Ill do a lil testing once i get it to the shop.. i actually think it may have spit out part of the headgasket cus before it dropped to a 3 cylinder there was alot of oil puking out the headgasket at cylinder one along with low compression #s from that cyl. Sounds like a subaru lol! Work has been fricking crazy though so not sure when im gona have time... been so crazy im about to have me a beer after 2 months of not drinking.

They will smoke with a cracked ring. They will get cracked rings if the turbo is leaking into the compressor housing and is adding oil vapor to the intake charge. Oil vapor in the air charge caused detonation. Oil has a lower octane than gasoline.

You also need to remove your intercooler and run lots of solvent through it to get the pooled oil out of any of the tubes.

Good luck.

The Chicom turbo has not needed a restrictor, in most of our experience. If the seals are once overpowered by oil pressure, it doesn't hurt the seal and it can begin working again if the pressure is lowered.
